Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, recently provided an update on his grandfather’s health ahead of his approaching 100th birthday. Although Jimmy has been in hospice care since February 2023, he remains emotionally engaged and aware, despite a noticeable decline in his physical condition. “He has really physically diminished, but he is emotionally engaged, still having experiences, laughing, and loving,” Jason shared with People magazine.
The family initially thought Jimmy’s passing was imminent, but he has surpassed those expectations. “God had other plans,” Jason explained, acknowledging that his condition can change day to day.
Jimmy Carter has spent his final years in Plains, Georgia, the place where he and his late wife Rosalynn, who passed away in 2023, built their life together. Jason remarked, “None of us really understand what it’s like for him right now… there are things about the spirit that you just can’t understand.”
Reflecting on Plains, Jason added, “It’s the place that has given him the greatest support… there’s no other place in the world where he would feel at peace besides Plains.”
Despite his physical frailty, Jimmy continues to receive love and support from his family and community, demonstrating resilience and joy even in hospice care.
