Linda Receives Grandma’s Old Clocks & Greedy Brother Gets House, Turns Out She Got Almost $200K

Brian and Linda are called to visit their ailing grandmother, Marlene, for what would be their final moments with her. Brian, the older sibling, is left her house, while Linda inherits five old, rusty clocks. Brian mocks her, revealing his greed. Though both receive $5,000, Brian is dissatisfied, showing his lack of appreciation. Linda, however, touched by Marlene’s thoughtfulness, remembers the sacrifices her grandmother made for her and takes a month off school to care for her.

During that time, Linda renovates Marlene’s house, bringing joy and comfort to her grandmother’s final days. Moved by Linda’s devotion, Marlene expresses her wish to “die happy,” which she does shortly after the house is completed.

After the funeral, the will is read. Brian is overjoyed with inheriting the house, while Linda receives the clocks. Unbothered by her brother’s mockery, Linda returns to the city with the clocks, unaware of their true worth. One day, she notices an engraving inside one of the clocks instructing her to open it. To her amazement, the clocks are rare antiques, each worth $40,000.

Overwhelmed with joy, Linda realizes her grandmother’s real intent—to give her something valuable beyond what it appeared. Keeping the discovery a secret, Linda reflects on the contrast between her and Brian’s values. She understands that “true worth goes beyond material things,” appreciating the hidden treasures of love and wisdom Marlene left behind.
